Resident-Led Events & Clubs

REC or Resident-Led Events & Clubs is one way that our homes get to showcase the many gifts and talents that our residents have and want to share with others that they live with. It's our new perspective on celebrating the knowledge, interests and wisdom of our residents in our Retirement Lodges and Long-Term Care Homes.

In it's humble beginnings we sought out some volunteer homes that would take the project under their wing. As Jarlette Health Service's Long-Term Care Homes continually strive to offer unique and innovative programs to enrich the lives of our residents, the volunteers were not hard to find.

Southampton Care Centre in Bruce County and the Villa Care Centre in Midland stepped forward as leaders to pilot the quality improvement project in their homes. Through resident feedback, we've now expanded the project to our other 10 long term care homes and the excitement is growing. Our "Resident Inspired, Resident Driven, Resident Run" Philosophy has taken flight - and we encourage everyone to get involved! Our Program Managers, Life Enrichment Departments, Families and Volunteers are passionate about supporting and facilitating the spiritual, intellectual, physical, social and emotional interests of the people living in our homes.

"I have been involved with poetry and artwork all of my life. Leading the Resident Run Poetry Club gives me a sense of purpose. I look foward to every Monday when the group meets. It's a good feeling to share with the other ladies." - Isabel at Southampton Care Centre.

We encourage families and friends to get involved as well by supporting residents and fostering connections with other people in their home. Through the REC program, we will continue to bring people together to share common interests, develop new friendships and strenghten a sense of community in our homes.
