Resident Olympics At Temiskaming Lodge

The 2014 Winter Olympics have come to a close, but “Olympic” fever was sure on at Temiskaming Lodge over the past few weeks. Everyone could sense the patriotic spirit building in anticipation of the games, as our country’s athletes gave their best efforts in Sochi to win gold.

Prior to the opening ceremonies, a prominent display was put together in the center core area by the Life Enrichment team to advise everyone of the upcoming Winter Olympic Games.  Along with this display, there was a day by day schedule of events for residents to consult if they wished to view any event of their choice on their personal television or on the wide screen television in the living room. On the display board, there were pictures of the 3 medals (gold, silver and bronze) and, as Canada won medals, the numbers were added below these to help everyone keep track of the medal count for our country. There were also pictures of many of the different sports that the residents could look forward to seeing.

On February 20th, we held our very own In House Olympics. The afternoon was filled with sporting fun for the residents to enjoy. The residents were able to take part in Curling, Bowling, Hockey, Bean Bag Toss and Darts. There was also an area set up for spectators to enjoy some refreshments while they cheered on our very own athletes. After our fun filled afternoon each participant was presented with their very own gold medal and a certificate thanking them for taking part. The residents were very excited to receive these medals and many of them continued to wear them even after the Olympics came to a close.
