Volunteer Appreciation Celebration

Staff And Residents Come Together To Recognize The Wonderful Group Of Volunteers Who Make An Outstanding Difference.

Alexander Place Long Term Care Home - Waterdown, ON.

On Wednesday April 17th, Alexander Place hosted their Annual Volunteer Appreciation Party. Residents and staff welcomed 30 Volunteers into the Home, 2 of which who have been part of Alexander Place since it opened in 2002 (17 years of "Volunteer-ism"). In the past year, (April 2018-April 2019) Alexander Place Volunteers have dedicated over 2,600 hours of their time, and the Home cannot express how lucky they are to have such a great group of individuals who are beyond dedicated and passionate. Working together, the Volunteers continuously make a positive impact at Alexander Place, as they truly make an outstanding difference in both the lives of Residents and family members, as well as staff. Over the course of the last year, and during the Annual Celebration, Alexander Place was able to glean some valuable feedback about their wonderful Volunteers:

Director Of Care - Bibi - "I am pleased to see the consistency in how much our volunteers make our residents smile and feel valued."

Administrator - Jenn - "Thank you to our volunteers for continuously giving up your personal time to enrich the lives of our residents and people in our community."

Life Enrichment Coordinator - Caitlin - "Without our volunteers we wouldn't be able to provide the extra programs that we do to our residents. Thank you for coming in after hours and on weekends to spend time with our residents."

Resident - Helen - "You guys are simply the best and there are no words to do you justice!"

Resident - Anne - "Our volunteers are priceless and I know there are many residents that aren't able to say thank you, so for the one's that don't or can't, THANK YOU!"

Resident - Yvonne - "You guys are a great bunch who always takes their time and really listens to us."

This year, the Home's recipient for the OLTCA Circle of Excellence Award goes to one of Alexander Place's most dedicated volunteers, Nicole McBrayne. Nicole is an excellent representation of a person who contributes to the positive atmosphere in our Home and always puts our Residents' needs first. Nicole started off volunteering in the Alexander Place Tuck Shop Cart once a week and eventually began to volunteer in the Programs Department when needed. She then joined our Charitable Organization, Friends of Alexander Place, and has become the President of the Organization within our Home. Still to this day, Nicole remains dedicated in every volunteer position, no matter what she is up to. What stood out the most to our Home though, was how Nicole went above and beyond to raise funds for our Residents through an outside organization called The Women of Waterdown. With those funds raised, Nicole went out and bought numerous gifts for each and every one of our Residents, and then personally hand-delivered them with other community members from The Women of Waterdown on Christmas Eve. We would like to thank Nicole for her commitment, enthusiasm and joy she brings to our Residents at Alexander Place!
