Residents take in the impressive military display at the Old Mill Heritage Centre in Kagawong

Manitoulin Lodge- Gore Bay, Long Term Care

On November 3rd, residents from Manitoulin Lodge geared up and headed to the Old Mill Heritage Centre about 20 minutes from the home on the Angel Bus to check out the war museum items.

The displays include a number of both Nazi and German army artifacts. The military exhibit started in 2008 and runs the two weeks leading up to Remembrance Day. Some of the display items included; WWII Harley Davidson motorcycle that the Canadian Forces used while overseas as was a radio from Canadian Sherman Tank from WWII. The display also consisted of many photos from the Buchenwald concentration camp. A complete collection of every gun in the Canadian Forces that was used in WWII was also included and a display that honoured women who were in service during the war.

The residents reminisced about a period of time that many of them remember very well and appreciated the opportunity to attend the exhibit.
