Leadership of the Year Award Winner

Celebrating another PSW Leadership Award at the 2017 OLTCA Convention.

Southampton Care Centre- Southampton, Ontario

The Ontario Long Term Care Association (OLTCA) represents nearly 70% of Ontario’s 630 Long Term Care Homes. For the second year in a row a Southampton Care Centre employee has been the recipient of the Personal Support Worker Leadership of the Year Award.  Last year Southampton’s activation aide Lisa Carr won as well.

Allison Trumbley was awarded the title this year as a “personal support worker currently working in an active member home who has demonstrated leadership in advancing the quality and culture of person-centered care”.  Here is why.

Much like the Jarlette Health Services core values, Allison Trumbley has shown tremendous commitment as a long-standing employee for over fourteen years at the Southampton Care Centre.  She is extremely passionate about her job.  She is accountable, responsible and very reliable.  Allison has sought out education to strengthen her own skills, provides her peers with guidance and transfers her knowledge every day.  Allison takes initiative and is extremely proactive in communicating vital information to minimize risks, improving the lives of residents and staff.

In addition to her regular PSW duties on the floor, Allison is also a valued member of the internal Behaviour Support Ontario (BSO) team.    She communicates with the BSO Outreach Psycho Geriatric unit and provides valuable input into consultations.  She works with families and staff to come up with both simple and out of the box interventions to reduce responsive behaviours and falls. Allison has also assisted tremendously in improvements to the skin & wound prevention and care.

Allison co-chairs the Health and Safety Committee.  In a solution focused and supportive way, she brings forth recommendations and seeks to clarify policies.   As a Union Steward she is impartial and fair when representing her co-workers in a professional manner.

Most importantly Allison shares information with her supervisors and her co-workers.  Vital in the LTC environment is ensuring that resident care issues are reported from direct care staff and that care plan changes are communicated back to the floor.  Allison recognizes this and has an uncanny ability to guide and lead others, communicate vital information and make change happen.  She is also very resident focused and understands the importance of developing truly individualized care plans.

Allison Trumbley makes an outstanding difference in the lives of others, a passion that has grown more personal over the years. Although if you ask her, she’ll just tell you she is doing her job the best that she can, that’s all.  “Like many of our staff, Allison does THE best job and we are so proud” says Brenda Ohm, SCC Administrator.
