Knitting For A Great Cause

Waterside Retirement Lodge Residents Give Back To The Local Community In A Big Way!

Waterside Retirement Lodge - Wasaga Beach, ON

Waterside Retirement Lodge in the Town of Wasaga Beach has been knitting blankets since 2016 for various Hospitals. The ladies are passionate about giving back to the community, and in the first two years of the program over 40 blankets were donated to patients receiving Cancer treatment at Southlake Regional Health Centre, and to children at SickKids Foundation. In 2018, their goal of 500 knitted baby items was surpassed in 3 short months thanks to the support of the community.

Recreation Coordinator, Christie Murchison estimates almost 1000 items were donated to 3 different Hospitals in the surrounding area. After their 500 Party in June 2018, the group started knitting over-sized lap blankets for Collingwood General and Marine Hospital. They learned there was a need to assist patients to be more comfortable when sitting for longer periods of time at the Hospital.

In 2019 already 5 blankets have been donated to the Hospital and there is no stopping these ladies. The Residents' goal for 2019 is to donate enough blankets for the Hospital to say, "We don't need anymore at this time," like they did last year with baby hats. Residents welcome any community member who may like to help in making an outstanding difference in the lives of patients at Collingwood General And Marine Hospital by dropping off new blankets to Waterside Retirement Lodge at 239 Zoo Park Road, Wasaga Beach.
