Woodstock 1969 was recreated as the residents, staff and summer students spent an afternoon sharing tales of their escapades during the 60's. It was a chance to recreate their youth in 60's themed clothing and sing along to their favourite tunes of the era. Before the event, Canada Summer Jobs Dementia Art Student Kennedy Klie lead the REC- CRAFTY Hands club in making butterfly decorations to hang from the ceiling, PEACE sign head bands and flowered head bands. Each year, the Resident Council provides an opportunity for local youth to have a workplace experience in long term care. " I was a little bit nervous in my first week but I learned that the residents were definitely "Young at heart and slightly older in other places" states Summer Student Kennedy." This experience has been so positive and has definitely given me a new perspective on career choices." Kennedy spent 6 weeks at the Care Centre working individually with residents as well as with small groups of residents to create art using a variety of mediums. The Happy Hippy Party was a festive wind-up to the summer as participants grooved to the sounds of the super 60's and celebrated the day with some fine Woodstock wine mocktails.
