2015 Cookies for Memories Sale

Meadow Park Long Term Care - Chatham

This past October 5th to 7th Meadow Park Chatham held its second annual “Cookies for Memories” fundraiser for the local Chatham-Kent Alzheimer Society. The idea came to Joanne Jones (Program Director) & Lydia Swant (Coordinator of Volunteers/RFSC) when they were have great difficulty getting staff, residents and family members excited about the traditional Coffee Break format that has been run at the home for several years. The duo came up with the idea to sell cookies for $5 a dozen and entice everyone in the home with the aroma of fresh baked cookies. The idea has been a huge success! Last year the event raised $320.00 and this year raised $350.00! The cookies were sold out the very first day and orders have already started to come in for the next cookie fundraiser being held in December for the Resident’s Council at the home.

In past years the home was only able to generate $50 - $75 from a traditional coffee break – it goes to show that if you think outside the “cookie box” you can do great things!

Here at the Alzheimer Society of Chatham-Kent we are very grateful to the staff at Meadow Park for their support again this year. The smell of cookies baking was wonderful, our staff enjoyed a plate of cookies too and money was raised to support our services to family’s right here in Chatham-Kent.  We are so pleased with all of the support we receive in this community and we know that we are not alone in our fight to improve the lives of people affected by Alzheimer’s disease or related dementias and their family caregivers.

-Marie Humphrey – Coordinator of Volunteer Services – Alzheimer Society of Chatham-Kent

By far the comments from staff, residents and families about how wonderful the home smelled with the scent of fresh baked oatmeal raisin and chocolate chip cookies. 65 dozen cookies were baked between October 5th to 7th.

Marie Humphrey (Volunteer Coordinator of the CK Alzheimer’s Society) stopped by to take photos and pick up her cookie order to bring back to the staff at the local Alzheimer’s Society office.

A cheque presentation will take place in a couple weeks!
