Manitoulin Lodge Residents Engages in Meaningful Advocacy Work

Manitoulin Lodge- Gore Bay, Long Term Care

Manitoulin Lodge was full of spirit on Friday February 24th, 2017 as they engaged in meaningful advocacy work. Although the weather wasn't the greatest, it did not stop our residents and family members from attending our event. It also did not stop our local MPP Michael Mantha from making a special trip to our home to hear about the Better Seniors' Care Campaign and to hear first hand from our family members and residents regarding what they feel the priorities need to be in long term care moving forward. Mr. Mantha was extremely receptive to the messages that our residents and families wanted to send and our RFSC presented the priorities of the Better Seniors' Care Campaign which include:

  1. Making LTC home safer and more modern
  2. Giving seniors outside or urban centres equal access to services
  3. Adopting a more predictable funding approach; enhancing support for specialized resources

We were also very fortunate to have the Alzheimer's Society present to provide education to those who attended our open house. Refreshments and tours were also provided to those individuals who were interested in learning more about what exceptional long-term care looks like.

One of our residents Mary-Ann played her part by encouraging attendants at the event to sign the petition for the Better Seniors' Care Campaign. If you were unable to attend the event, please pledge your support for Better Seniors' Care at or come to the Lodge and visit Mary-Ann who will be setting up at the front lounge throughout the next couple of weeks collecting more names for the petition.
