A Very Meadow Park Christmas!

The Jammin' Jems Perform for Friends and Families

Meadow Park - Chatham, Long-Term Care

Merry Christmas from the Jammin' Jems! (And Buddy the Elf too!)

Jammin' Jems was formed a few weeks back with the goal of practicing each week in order to perform at the Christmas Social. Brenda (Life Enrichment Coordinator) incorporated instruments and involved our visiting entertainers Ryan St. Denis and Crystal Gage (who really got into the act!). They actually had a dress-rehearsal together prior to the social.

All the residents in the band have benefited from the DementiAbility Program in some way. A few of the residents involved are actually REC (Resident-Led Events and Clubs) volunteers as well!  We've seen a great blend of DementiAbility and the REC program for some of our residents. One example is our resident Evelyn who has found purpose and enjoyment in her day-to-day routine assisting with portering other residents (we call this "Helping Hands"), assisting with small tasks at a program and becoming a member of the Jammin' Jems. She leads a very busy and fulfilled day!

Moving forward the Jammin' Jems will be working on other songs to perform at other events like the monthly Birthday Party or even the Mother's Day Social.  We'll also be encouraging more membership to the band if we see that a resident might enjoy/benefit from being a part of this group.
