All Things Christmas: A Season of Giving

Christmas is the time of year when we give thanks to those who make a difference in our lives. It is a time when giving back becomes a focus for many and celebraing another wonderful holiday with loved ones gives us joy and warms our hearts.

Over the past couple of weeks, to celebrate the holidays, several events have taken place at Meadow Park.Giving back and saying thank you has been in the forefront of our minds entering the holiday season and will no doubt take us right into the new year!

November 27th: We kicked off the season with a staff appreciation dinner complete with turkey, stuffing and all of the trimmings! Staff enjoyed enteratinment, time to socialize and everyone walked away with a full stomach and a door prize!

December 5th: Staff then took part in the annual turkey give-away day! All staff received a turkey to take home and share witht heir family. Volunteers assist with the turkeys allowing for a smooth and organized pick up day!

December 9th: The annual Volunteers Christmas luncheon at a local restaurant, chosen by the volunteers! The meal was attended by so many of our dedicated volunteers that provide Pet Visits, Hymn Sign, Ice Cream Days, Front Desk Reception and the list goes on! Special thanks to the Meadow Park Family Council for sponsoring the lunch for our amazing volunteers.

December 10th: Goal Planning with our families is always an indication that the year is coming to a close. With a wonderful year behind us we look to the future to make our home even better! Family members welcomed the management team to the meeting to work on setting goals for 2015.

December 15th: Our 50/50 Family Fund winner was announced today. Since February, we have been holding 50/50 draws and we were able to award one staff member with a $250 prize in gift cards of their choice. The award winner is determined by nominations from staff and a panel of community partners based on details put forth by the nomination ballots (excluding names). Congratulations to Tanya!

December 15-17th: Cookies for Council was once again a huge success! Cookie sales to fundraise for the Resident's Council summer grant program. The smell of freshly baked cookies drifted around the home creating a wonderful Christmas atmosphere.Thank you to all who supported the cause.

December 17th:  The Meadow Park Christmas Social is by far the most well attended event of the year. Families and residents come together to enjoy entertainment, good food and an opportunity to make memories together. This year we presented 3 retirees with a framed watercolour picture of the home with their years of service listed. A special presentation was also made to honour our 2014 Making a Difference Award Winner – Resident Augie Sunnen.  Augie was present with his wife and grand-daughter to hear his story read and receive applause and words of congrats from residents and family. The night was topped off with some singing (and even a bit of dancing) with our traditional singing of Neil Diamond’s “Sweet Caroline”.
